The UKCEH Soil Wetness Explorer app has been updated to provide information daily (rather than monthly), giving you the most up to date information to make decisions on when to plant, irrigate or if fields are likely to be traversable.

The Soil Wetness Explorer provides an estimate of relative soil wetness across Great Britain at 50m resolution. Soil wetness is a measure of how wet or dry the whole soil layer is relative to historical extremes on this day in previous years. The app is driven by a hydrological model developed by UKCEH and uses rainfall observations provided by the Met Office.

In the future, the app will also include forecasted soil moisture and uncertainty estimates for the next few weeks ahead.
